EMbodied Movement Fundamentals

Have you tried all kinds of therapies and still find that you have pains that don’t get better? What if you had a toolkit of healing strategies to feel better consistently in your life? All while cultivating love for and pleasure in your own body...

Understand Your Movement, Befriend Your Body

  • Maybe you are suffering with low level pain that no one has been able to help with?

  • You might feel your niggles are too small to go to a body worker, but you don’t want them to get worse either. And they are holding you back.

  • You might know the names of your body parts, but addressing a single muscle or area doesn’t really help. Or it helps for a bit, but then the pain pops up somewhere else.

  • Perhaps it feels frustrating to have recurring injuries that don’t resolve and move around the body. You know moving is good for you, but it doesn’t always feel good, and you wish it did.

A 6-week course of embodied & practical learning

Enjoy movement more, so you can do it well for the long, long term.

Begins Thursday 3 November 2022

HOW IT WORKS

Weekly Webinars

Each week for 6 weeks, you will learn a principle of movement and discover more about an area of your body, including how it contributes to the whole of you.

Interactive webinars run from 1-2 pm BST/8-9 EDT on Thursdays and are taught live online. Recordings will be available for those who can’t join live.

This weekly class is your chance to learn and explore. Class starts with a short movement warm up, before moving onto embodied learning and exploration. Class concludes with a few exercises to consolidate your learning.

practical movement applications

You’ll get a library of recorded movement (20 minute) and awareness practices (10 minute) that you can do in your own time, to build your embodiment and self care skills.

You’ll also get 3 bonus videos that help you figure out what your body needs to feel good and how to incorporate more joyful & inspiring movement into your daily life.

This course is for You if You:

  • You have long term injuries or challenges and feel the care you have received hasn’t helped you understand on a systemic or deeper level.

  • You feel frustrated by chasing pain and injury around your body.

  • Your movement practices, like yoga, help you feel better in some ways, they are also hurting your body in other ways.

  • You like creative approaches that allow you to diversify your movement activities with different practices based on what your body needs.

  • You have had moments of feeling really “in your body”, but would like to be able to get there more frequently.

  • You are a person who wants to understand yourself not just go to someone else to fix a problem.

  • You would like to be active and fit for a long, long time.

  • You want to cultivate love for and pleasure in your body.

What makes this course different?

01

It is not just a movement/exercise course or a bookish anatomy course, although it incorporates elements of both. You’ll get tools for understanding movement, as well as guided movement practices, to put information into practice

02

Many exercise classes talk about individual muscles, like tightening the glutes or stretching the hamstrings. This course explores the body on a more global perspective, from the principles of movement - like responding to gravity and force absorption, so you understand functionally.

03

Can be applied to many different movement activities, from yoga to tennis, from walking (especially walking) to daily house work. Great for people with movement goals and those who want to maintain movement in their normal life.

ABOUT Your teacher

A LIFETIME OF MOVEMENT

Hello, my name is Mollie. My lifelong love of movement started with dance at age 3, and moved to yoga in my early 20’s. But from age 13, I had persistent and migrating injuries, and incomplete guidance that made me struggle to move as much as I wanted to.

It started with constant, nagging sit bone pain that limited my desire to practice all throughout my 20’s. Now I am in my 40’s and my body is flourishing because of nuanced awareness and creative movement strategies. I incorporated strength building and somatic movement; imagery, mental strategies and biomechanical understanding through the Franklin Method; and creative movement based on my dance and yoga studies.

I want to challenge the notion that exercise is for the body, and other practices for the mind. Our whole life, from meditation or yoga, to parenting and working can be self-reflective and spiritual practices. Not because we light incense but because we light up our own awareness in the process.

Every injury I have faced propelled me into deeper questions, and has been a catalyst for learning and change. Each challenge eventually brought greater healing and truth. I know what my body needs, and how to care for it well, which I mostly do. I want the same for you.

FAQs

What if I can't join live?

All live sessions will be recorded, and accessible for 6 months. Why limited? It makes you engage better with the material. By then you’ll have a deep understanding.

Other parts of the course, the preliminary session, bonus sessions and movement practices are pre-recorded for you to access at your own time. If you need help committing to those practices, there are options for that too.

Is this an anatomy course?

Well, yes and no. Yes you will be learning about your body, and might get some new vocabulary about your body. But more importantly, you’ll learn the principles of why our body is the way it is, and how to improve how you feel. The anatomy part is like having a better map of the terrain of your body, recognising landmarks and knowing how they work. But the important piece of the course is feeling the body and learning how to move better in it. Its the way I wish we were all taught about our bodies when we were young!

What can I expect form the sessions?

The live taught sesssion will include some anatomy learning and some moving. Not yoga poses, but touching the body, trying out movements and some “exercises” as well.

In addition to the live sessions, you’ll get 2 videos per week:
a 20-minute movement practice & a 10 minute awareness practice.

Lastly there are 3 recorded “bonus” sessions, one for the beginning of the course to explore where you are now with your movement, your pain levels and more, and 2 along the way to help orient your learning. These can be done independently.

I've got a ____ injury / pain (back pain, knee pain, frozen shoulder etc.) Is the course suitable?

I’m sorry to hear that! But maybe that is why you have sought out this course. None of the material on the course will be dangerous to your body. There are no fancy yoga poses or heavy lifting. Instead we will be improving our awareness and our sense of the body. I will direct you to listen to the needs of your body and to do the movements at the range that feels possible and comfortable, even if that is just imagining. (Imagining movement is actually really helpful. Even athletes and performers do it!).

More than that, you might learn or discover what postural circumstances are contributing to your pain, and hav enew strategies to ease those. So yes it is sutable, and although we won’t address people’s injuries specifically, you might learn a lot that can help you self treat.

What if I have more questions as we go along?

There will be specific channels for you to ask questions during the course. All the webinars are taught interactively, so you’ll have a chance to ask questions live, or in a Slack group. And if you need more specific guidance, you can book a 1:1 session at a reduced rate.

Do I have to have experience with Yoga?

Nope. No expereince necessary.

Is this a course for yoga teachers?

This course is fundamental information that I wish EVERYONE had. So you are welcome to join if you are a yoga teacher, and it will help your teaching, but this is a course for people with pain (like back pain), niggles, tightness and who feel detached from their bodies in daily life. It is informative, but not a professional development course.

Feeling Good, STrong & Free in your body is possible. LEt’s explore how.
