THE EMBODIED ANATOMY LAB 2023 course

Have you felt limited in your teaching, or lacked confidence with your students because of what you did not understand about anatomy?

A multi-sensory journey through your body

You have been practicing yoga for years, and teaching too. But do you still have injuries and it's making you wonder what is going on?

Maybe you had teachers who said one instruction and then others who said that is wrong and you don’t know where to go from there?

Or else you learned names for muscles and bones in your head, but you are confused about how they work? And your students are also complaining of pain. So are your alignment cues working?

Your yoga teacher training had 20 hours of Anatomy, that hasn’t helped you feel confident in what you know, or how to explain it?

How do you improve pain in yourself and your students to heal and prevent injuries?

“The course was well paced, thorough, engaging, insightful.”

“It gave me chances to engage with my body on a deeper level and helped put a lot of puzzle pieces together in terms of anatomy, terminology, visualisation as a tool for movement, injury prevention and listening to what your body is telling you.”

Loved it!

JEN C.

“This course brings anatomy alive.”

“As you become more sensitive, build the capacity to feel subtlety, the inner natural movements begin to inform the outer movements. And that's a new way to think about and feel into alignment - internally informed by body versus externally enforced upon body.”

LIINA T.

“Mollie is super generous with her knoweldge and gives of it freely.”

“It is full of moments of aha & wow! Learning in the most fun and accessible way. I loved it. “

ZOFIA H.

“The sessions have been so helpful in my body awareness and embodiment”

“In the breathing workshop, I knew the theory, but it is so helpful to really feel/visualise it. It’s incredible the difference the embodied element makes.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW IS THE COURSE DELIVERED?

Webinars are shared live over Zoom, and recorded. They will then be accessible from an online portal, where handouts and additional information is also shared.

Students will be invited to join a social media group, and will have study buddies and assignments that can be done with a partner or solo.

WHERE DOES THE INFORMATION COME FROM?

This is a somatically led course, but the material is from outside of the yoga tradition. This is because some yoga anatomy teachers use anatomical language to justify "yoga cues". In this course we question everything, so it is important that the anatomical work comes from outside yoga. Many of the techniques, exercises and images derive from the Franklin Method. Others come from Body Mind Centring, Scaravelli yoga, Contact Improvisation, Dance and other somatic disciplines.

IS THERE ANY HOMEWORK OR READING?

You will receive handouts and worksheets that are optional, but obviously will support your own learning and development. There will be a quiz at the end of the 4 anatomy webinars, to help clarify what information will go into the Q&A. Some additional readings (and bonus videos) will be provided, of varying lengths, to stimulate your creativity and explore different movement possibilities.

IS IT FOR YOGA TEACHERS? CAN ANYONE JOIN?

The material is taught in a way that general familiarity with your body and movement will be helpful. But, anyone with a body, who would like to learn more about their body, is welcome to join. We will connect the anatomical material to yoga poses, but it is not required that you know or practice them, to see and understand the application.

Past students have included physio’s, massage therapists, Osteopathic students, Pilates and Pregnancy yoga teachers.

WHAT IF I TEACH A SPECIFIC YOGA STYLE?

This information in this course is about how your body is designed to function, the way your bones move together, the kinds of movements that activate your muscles, etc. It is taught in a non-dogmatic way, so we will be experimenting to figure out what works best for us, and how we can make our poses feel better, stronger and more efficient.

It is true that some people end up questioning some of the information they received from their teachers, and exploring whether they could share yoga in a better way. However, some students also find that their teachers had very good explanations for poses, and now they understand why scientifically.

CAN I USE THE COURSE FOR CPD?

This course is accredited by Yoga Alliance Professionals and can be used as CPD.
